Leaking Roof

‘Leaking Roof’ is a poetic spatial intervention that introduces water as an architectural element with unexpected qualities: the value of uselessness, breaking and failing, miscommunication and shifting perspectives. Designer wu offers an opportunity to touch, feel and learn from water by developing and producing roofing tiles from locally dug soil with varying proportions of clay, peat and sand. The tiles, which are the result of an extensive material research, explore the varied permeability and colours of soil, offering reflections on the subtle relationship between water and earth.

Experimenting with sea mud from the Noordoostpolder and firing it at varying temperatures, together with investigating ancient shapes of roofing tiles, the installation invites an open dialogue about how we perceive the elements.
